US Open 2026 at Shinnecock Hills: The Late-Booking Trip Guide
The 126th U.S. Open runs June 15–21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, with championship rounds Thursday through Sunday. If you’ve been considering this trip and haven’t booked, you’re not too late — you’re operating with about three weeks of runway, which means specific decisions in a specific order.
Tickets
SeatGeek is the official primary ticketing partner for the USGA. Daily passes and weekly packages are still moving here, and prices are the cleanest available. [Search SeatGeek for US Open tickets]
StubHub and Vivid Seats both carry secondary inventory for sold-out days. Weekend rounds (Saturday/Sunday) command the highest premium. The pattern at golf majors is that weekday rounds offer better viewing value — full 156-player field spread across the course, faster pace, smaller galleries at any given hole. Hospitality packages through USGA Experiences include the Trophy Club and 1895 Club options. These are premium investments; call 855-424-7080 for current availability.
Where to stay
The Hamptons are largely booked, and what remains is priced at peak summer rates with tournament markup layered on. Three honest options:
Southampton and Bridgehampton (in the Hamptons) — If you find inventory, you’re paying peak-rate Hamptons pricing. Best for short drives to the course; worst for budget. [Browse Hamptons hotels on Booking.com]
Riverhead and further west on Long Island — Roughly 30–45 minutes from Shinnecock, significantly cheaper, more inventory still available. Hampton Inn Riverhead and the chain hotels along the LIE are the value play. [Browse Long Island hotels on Expedia]
Manhattan plus LIRR — The contrarian play that actually works. Stay in Manhattan at normal NYC rates, take the LIRR to the tournament. Door-to-tee is roughly two hours, and you’re staying in a major city the rest of the time. [Find Manhattan hotels on Booking.com]
Getting to Shinnecock
LIRR is the right answer for most attendees. The USGA built a temporary platform near the Stony Brook Southampton campus, with a pedestrian bridge crossing County Route 39 to the championship grounds. You enter through security like any major sporting event. Cheap, no parking math, no traffic.
BLADE helicopter service operates Thursday through Sunday from NYC, Westchester, New Jersey, and intra-Hamptons airports. Landing zone is at the Shinnecock Nation Powwow Grounds with complimentary shuttle to the course. Premium pricing; details at blade.com/usopen2026.
Driving is the worst option. No on-site parking, mandatory shuttle from off-site lots, and Sunrise Highway traffic during championship week is well-documented as miserable.
Which day to buy
If you’re picking one day, take Friday, June 19. Full field still playing, the cut hasn’t happened, weather typically holds, and pricing sits meaningfully below the weekend. Thursday is a close second for the same reasons. Saturday and Sunday give you leaderboard drama but a more compressed viewing experience — fewer groups, packed galleries.
Bottom line
This trip is still doable. The combination of LIRR plus Riverhead-area lodging plus a Friday ticket via SeatGeek is the under-budget, lower-stress entry point. Anyone telling you it’s too late to plan US Open week hasn’t checked inventory in the last 72 hours.
